Legendary handicapper Hammerin' Hank Goldberg enjoyed a 17-year ESPN run in which he had only two losing seasons picking NFL games. Last year, Hammer competed against 10 top handicappers in the Las Vegas Review-Journal's NFL Challenge and beat them all, finishing 50-29-6 (63.2 percent) against the spread.
In last week's Hall of Fame Game, Hammer told SportsLine readers to grab Chicago +2.5. The result: The Bears covered, nearly winning outright in a 17-16 loss.
Now, with a full preseason slate kicking off, Hammer tapped into the inside sources he's spent years cultivating. He's unearthed a critical X-factor that causes one side of the Lions-Raiders spread to hit hard. Does 3-point home favorite Oakland cover the spread or will Detroit pull off the upset, or at least keep it within a field goal?
Who is Hammer backing in Lions-Raiders? And what critical stat determines the outcome?... Join SportsLine here to see Hammerin' Hank Goldberg's Week 1 preseason bets and selections from other games, all from the handicapping legend coming off another wildly profitable NFL season!
